Before answering the question “Are mesh implants healthy?” it is important to understand why the use of mesh implants was felt to be necessary at all. A mesh implant involves the insertion of a mesh into the vagina in order to “cure” urinal incontinence in women. So many women have this problem and it can cause quite a lot of discomfort- as a result doctors came up with the concept and use of mesh implants.
Are mesh implants healthy? In one word-“no” but are they dangerous? Yes, they are and they can even prove to be fatal (and have proven to be so) due to the harm it causes to the vagina. Many women have complained about pains and vaginal discomfort after a mesh implant. Mesh implants are notorious for the complications they can cause. Think of it this way- the mesh, if it affects the vaginal health of a woman, could affect her entire reproductive system and put a woman’s life at risk. Some women have complained about vaginal bleeding after a mesh implant. This is extremely dangerous especially since women lose a lot of blood when they menstruate. Loss of blood in the vagina could be due to cuts and scars in the vagina which could lead to inflammation of the vaginal walls, cancer, and extreme discomfort (to the extent that they may not be able to move, walk or talk) and a number of vaginal infections which could put your overall health at a lot of risk.
Some infections and effects may be irreversible and you wouldn’t be able to do much to fix it either. Others may come and go frequently and no amount of medicines could ‘cure’ the issue. The thing with vaginal cuts, scars and other consequences of mesh implants is that they can only be reversed (I some cases to a small extent) via surgery and even then there is no guarantee that you’d be completely fine. The problem is with the procedure itself- not how it is carried out. Even if one problem is cured a thousand others may affect you because the vagina is a sensitive area.
If you do have urinary incontinence or any other issue of the sort, perhaps you could go for some sort of surgery. Mesh implants could cause so much trouble and one problem would eventually lead to the other. None of these problems could be cured by medicines either.
There’s no two ways to go about a mesh implant either. The only thing you can do is to get it inserted in your system- the problem lies in the fact that there’s a mesh in your body at all. A mesh is a synthetic item and there’s no way it could cure your urinal issues. In fact, mesh implants are actually known to have made the problem even worse and they even cause bowel issues and such like. Hence, no, mesh implants are not healthy- they would open up a world of other problems for you instead.
